Odyyseus trip to ancient Anatolia

Odysseus was unwilling to leave his serene home at the  island of  Ithaca. He did not want to leave behind a new born son and his beautiful wife Penelope, whom he both adored with all his heart.  however Odysseus  headed off to the far away city of Troy.   He had  no idea of what is about to come in the next twenty years of  such long journey….

On his way back from Troy to Ithaca, Odysseus and his men were driven by the winds first to Ismarus, the land of the Kikones. They destroyed and plundered Ismarus, but were eventually driven away with heavy losses. From there they sailed on, ran into a stormy weather as they were going around Cape Malea off the Pelopenessian peninsula. Their ship drifted and past Cythera for nine days. They eventually end up in Northern Africa in the land of the Lotus-Eaters. on the tenth day they when those men who ate the lotus lost all of their memory of the journey to home. This is probably the reason why none of the crew remembered their short landing in cesme pronounced like chaeshmae) nowadays known as Izmir on the western coast of of anatolia .
